Life at any time can become difficult.
Life at any time can become easy.
It all depends upon how you adjust yourself to life.
You cannot always control your circumstances.
But you can always think positive thoughts.
The realities of life result from many outside factors,
none of which you can control.
Your attitude, however, reflects the way
in which you evaluate what's happening to you.
It is not your situation,
it's your reaction to the situation that's important.
Things always seem to turn out best for those people
who can make the best out of the way things turn out.
There is nothing either good or bad,
only your thinking makes it so.
Elder's Meditation of the Day
".we hold on to our otuhan, our give-aways, because they help us to remain Indians."
--Lame Deer, LAKOTA
Our traditional communities and villages function on interdependence. Share the deer and give freely of what you have to another. Another way to express this principle is, it's better to give than to receive. To share what you have eliminates complexity. The Elders say, live a simple life. One of the principles in the Unseen World is, the more you give, the more you get. You can become a channel for abundance for your family, tribe or community. A giving person sets up a flow or replacement. Whatever you share will be returned to you in an amount equal or greater. The Indian way is for everyone to give to another, thus the community wins.
Great Spirit, today, teach me the principle of giving. Let me be Your channel of abundance.

WANTING TO WIN IS EVERYTHING
Winning isn't everything, but wanting to is.
Success is connected with continuous action.
It's largely a matter of hanging on after others have let go.
You're not finished when you're defeated,
you're only finished when you quit.
The most important quality essential to success is perseverance.
It overcomes almost everything, even nature.
You can have a fresh start any time you choose,
for your "failure" is not in the falling down,
but in the staying down.
It's not over until it's over.
If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again.
If you've got the courage to stick it out, you can win.

"So, with the Native way, it's not whether people find out about what you've done or not... that's not nearly as strong as having your source of morality within you, having your morality arise out of an inner perception of what is wrong, ridiculous, or shameful. You are your own judge."
--Eunice Baumann-Nelson, Ph.D., PENOBSCOT

***Inside each of us is a voice. It is a quiet voice. It is a guiding voice. If we listen for it, it will guide us, and help us avoid disaster. It is especially active when we are afraid, when we are in doubt, when we are scared, when we need help, and when we get angry. If we are excited emotionally, it is hard to hear this voice. If we are angry, it's hard to hear this voice because it is usually quiet. The best thing we can do is to practice getting quiet. If we don't get quiet, there is another voice called the judge. It tells us to attack or say bad things to other people or to judge ourselves. This voice is loud and usually gets us into trouble.***
Creator, Great Mystery, help me listen for the quiet voice. Let me know this voice of Yours. Your ways are gentle. Guide me with this voice. Thank you.

DO THE NEXT THING
You'll gain the advantage in any situation through one medium: time
When you think ahead of any approaching action you'll always have the advantage.
You'll be the winner.
Keeping a little ahead of conditions is one of the secrets of business.
The time to repair your roof is when the sun is shining.
Try to do things before they need to be done.
Let your advance worrying become advance thinking and planning.
Position yourself ahead of time in the best place for you.
When you do what is necessary,
all the odds are in your favor.

"Reawaken Your Curiosity"
"What a distressing contrast there is between the radiant intelligence of the
child and the feeble mentality of the average adult."
-- Sigmund Freud
Why is this so?
Young children possess what Zen calls ‘beginner’s mind.’ They are awed and
fascinated with the wonder of the world, open to discovering and experiencing
new things. Anything is possible. Life is a great adventure.
For almost all of us, the systems that ‘educate’ us to be adults stifle our
natural joy and curiosity. We lose touch with our innate appreciation of life.
We forget how to dream.
The blessing is that with attention, patience and love, we can reawaken our
sense of wonder. We can again dance with life.
"The mind WILL be free, or it will be dead."

"Honour Yourself"
"I’d gone through life believing in the strength and competence of others; never
in my own. Now, dazzled, I discovered that my capacities were real. It was like
finding a fortune in the lining of an old coat."
-- Joan Mills
Take a moment to stop and think about what you give to the people and life
around you. Don’t think about what you’re not doing right. Look instead at all
you do that is a blessing.
Many of us continually beat ourselves up for not doing or being enough. But
imagine for a moment that you are great just as you are. Feel the relief this
brings! Now open to the possibility that this is not a daydream. It’s true!
Believe it!
"People become really quite remarkable when they start thinking that they can do
things. When they believe in themselves they have the first secret of success."
-- Norman Vincent Peale
"We cannot rise higher than our thought of ourselves."
-- Orison Swett Marden

"Do You Engage In Violence?"
"There are three kinds of violence: one, through our deeds; two, through our
words; and three, through our thoughts. ... The root of all violence is in the
world of thoughts, and that is why training the mind is so important."
-- Eknath Easwaran
While there’s plenty of violence in the world, not many of us engage in violent
actions. But are we violent at times with the words we speak? How often do we
think vicious thoughts?
We may assume our thinking is an internal matter that has no bearing on the
quality of life in the world. Perhaps we need to think again.
"The ancestor of every destructive action, every destructive decision, is a
negative thought."
-- Eknath Easwaran
"We are what our thoughts have made us; so take care about what you think. Words
are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far."
"Keep trying" is the rule that must be followed
if you want to be successful at anything.
Your success will always be connected with your actions.
Just keep moving towards your goal.
You'll make mistakes along the way but don't ever quit.
You may even have to hang on after others have let go.
Persistence means taking pains to overcome every obstacle,
to do all that's necessary to reach your goal.
In the end, the only people who fail are those that do not try.
All great achievements takes time.

Elder's Meditation of the Day - April 2
"With children we always have to think about seven generations to come but yet unborn."
--Janice Sundown Hattet, SENECA
What we do today will effect the children seven generations form now. How we treat the Mother Earth will affect the children yet to be born. If we poison the water today, our children's children will be affected by the decision we made. Our children are the gateway to the future. Let us conscientiously think about the children and the seven generations to come.
My Creator, I thank you for my ancestors, seven generations ago
